What size playfield monitor did you try to cram into it? 32" or something bigger?

You do... but then again, are you really looking to see how many quarters it takes for a game/rules list? I think it adds a lot to the illusion... but I totally understand not doing it to!

@@evilgeniusentertainment Well for some tables like my Firepower Vs A.I. it's very necessary to see what state the game is in at any given time. And the Flintstones table's apron is part of the ball path that deposits it to either flipper that you definitely need to see. And yea of course, you are covering the instruction cards to EVERY game including original games. We put a ton of work into those aprons;) It would be like me putting a bra over the Mona Lisa... Wow it's like 3d dude, lol.

I think it compares quite well actually. I'm using 4 amps & 7 speakers gong on my build, and the 4KP ain't too far behind. In fact the only real advantage my setup has is that I can easily turn up or down each amp (they're located on the bottom of the cab), whereas it's all or nothing on the 4KP. And just like the various VPX/FP pins, some games have better sound design then others. A game like TWILIGHT ZONE sounds straight up amazing on the 4KP - better then the VPX versions IMO. Bottom line is that I highly recommend the SSF kit.

You know, I had intended on replacing the backbox monitor with a OLED... but I'm still rocking it because it looks OK. I'd say having a 1080 vs a 720 is a good thing, but the biggest thing is how much contrast the monitor is capable of. I'm using a 5 year old $99 Walmart TV, so I turn the black contrast up to a 100%. Which is just barely adequate. All that said, I'd spend the money to make sure your playfield is OLED over anything else.

Thanks for the update and advice. I was going to try for a 42 or 43” Samsung g7 odyssey or maybe a Sony a85k, but between you and others swearing by the oled for the playfield, I might just have to splurge on a c3 42”. Thanks again.

AFM does look sweet, doesn't it? Considering the lowest possible price is $1199, it's a pretty amazing deal. Hey, at the very least it is an option, and having more choices is always a good thing.

I don't know - I think everyone who does these sorts of videos has done oodles of content on the lag. At this point, it's a well known issue. But I do agree about AG being more transparent about the issue. It really should have been fixed by now, and b/c it's not, they should give us a roadmap or other statement on where it stands.

Thanks Mike! Hey, they're still giving ALP owners a little sugar! I can't blame anyone for waiting until the lag is sorted, but in truth it is a still a sweet machine with lots of awesome pins. The SSF kit is an amazing upgrade over the ALP... but the lag is a drag. Hey, that rhymed!

PCB! Screen went black, PCB started making a horrible whining sound. All despite kid glove treatment and less than a hundred plays. Opened a ticket with A1up over a month ago, no response. So yeah.

No, it isn't... but a lot of buyers would be fine with that! And if AG follows its own trends, all of the things held off of the budget models will (likely) be on sale during their quarterly National Owner's Day sales.

Well... the cabs do work. Games from/by Zen still have some lag (but are still plenty playable). Other games (I think it's over 120) have no lag at all. The 4KP completely destroys the A1up pins; totally apples and oranges. The backbox screen on the 4KP is as big as the playfield on the A1up, which is not close to 720p (more like 480 at best). Also, the 4KP's SSF kit is amazing. All that said, I completely understand people holding off on buying a 4KP until the lag is gone on the Zen games.

​@@evilgeniusentertainmentThe Intec gaming mod plus any other extras like exciters a shaker and a 27" screen might run you 500 to 600 dollars in total because Arcade1Up pinballs are going for 300 on Facebook Marketplace. For half the price if you're willing to do the work when you hit the flipper button it will actually do it's thing. No back glass but for half the price and no frustration when playing Zen games like Adams Family it's worth it. If you like a pretty machine with the back glass that plays many games without flipper lag then I get it. But if you're willing to mod your machine without hardly any flipper lag and are OK without a matching back glass then that might be the way to go for some.

That A1up cab is just so small. I mean you can cram a 32" monitor into it, but realistically if you're going to do all the work needed to get it remotely close to the 4KP, you might as well get something from game from solutions, or a real pinball cab shell. I'm not crushing anyone for getting an A1up pin, but they're a very entry-level machine.

If you can get an Arcade1Up pinball with no lag for 300 on FB marketplace I'll take it! Then I'll wait for At games to get their lag fixed before I spend over a thousand dollars on a virtual pinball.

More options are more betterer! The new 4KP is just so much better in so many ways over the ALP. The SSF kit is truly a massive upgrade, as are having the Zen games (even with some lag). There's just so much AG can do with the chipset that's in the ALP; surprised they're squeezing as much out of them as they have....

True but when you get them the way you want it's all good. Also once you have all the games you want why buy more?

My TRON dying about being treated with kid gloves w/less than a 100 plays has me doubting I'll be buying anything from them costing more then $299....

I think AG's a big enough company at this point to handle all of the above! I think though that it's more on Zen's ability to make their games work on the 4KP hardware.

Yeah, but it's not there at all on the non-Zen games. Something to do with android and Unreal5 engine I suppose. So you'd think there would - eventually - be able to figure out how. I'm just surprised it's taking this long.

I disagree, at least a little bit - first time we have 20 games (much stronger argument for it being a legit multicade), the first time we've seen some of these game for a long time (and first time this combo of games is available), it's got a nice big body/big screen, the controller deck could actually fit 2 adults, it looks nice - it's an interesting product, but I agree that no, it's not for most of the people in this community.

Most arcade gameroom dudes have already bought a pacman etc. from Arcade1Up. There's always somebody NEW looking for a pacman cab.Keep making the machines new people will happily buy them. Ofcourse not the ones that already have one.

Pac-Man is the bedrock of their company, no doubt about it.

@@evilgeniusentertainment The problem with multicades is the tradeoff of sacrificing gameplay controls with wonky button configurations and for that reason alone I am not a fan of multicades. I will take the original control/button layout everytime.

You know, it's been so long since the announcement that I've forgotten! Pretty sure the cab is almost the same dimensions (including screen) as the current ALU.

I think that most serious hobbyists would tend to go for the premium model, while most people walking through a Cost-Co would have no interest in OTG. The reason this machine is unique in the world is that it's no muss, no fuss licensed pins. And to look cool, which it does. Honestly, giving up the topper would be a bigger deal to me!

Good point, I tend to think of myself as a nerd wanting the best bang for my buck rather than a casual gamer that might see this in public, but $999 would be a slightly easier pill to swallow. As for the topper I agree, while cool it isn’t a game changer at all

Mike - I got my solenoid kit from Cleveland Software Design, who I highly recommend. I may try different ones down the line, but the ones I got from CSD work very well and have not burned out (which apparently they will do without something like CSD's setup).

I was very new to the hobby at the time; just trying to get everything to work without trying to shoot a video was hard enough! :)

​@@evilgeniusentertainment I get that! It's like pulling double duty. You have to think about getting the right shot AND do the project! I'm just getting into the hobby now. There are so many mod options and directions you can go with. It's a bit overwhelming.

Even longer than that - Pac-Man will live forever even if nothing else does.

I keep the 4KP pretty much at 50% (although some games (like ST:TNG) I turn up louder. Basically the same for my homebrew pin as well - basically everything at 50%, turn up or down as needed.

Yeah, I pretty much keep it stock as far as all the various sound settings go. Boring, I know.

The apron's too big - everything would be fine though.....

You just lay it down on the playfield! Now you could put little felt feet on it the bottom of the apron, or screw it directly to the cab itself (which make taking the screen out impossible), but I just set it straight on the monitor.

I just put a little black gorrila tape on the bottom edge. No scratches so far! Remember that the apron doesn't move at all (unless you're really blasting your cab). You could also put little felt feet on the corners (which I though about doing, but the tape seems to be working well enough).

I got digital victory led bar also but hated that it couldn’t be plugged in…. I ended up returning them since I didn’t want to charge them every 2 hours

Metal by the foot stores often times have untapped technical skills ya might bring that piece in with the measurements for a smaller version for ur alp 4k and ask the shop guys if they can replicate it maybe? just an idea I used to use them a lot for skateboard stuff.

Going to try to make one out of thick paper stock and/or foam core. It really does help trick the eye.
